Recently Mosaics @ The Cowshed participated in the SPARCS (South Perth Arts & Crafts Society) annual open day and saw this as a great fundraising opportunity, the week before Mother's Day, for our members to be involved in.

A friend of one of our members who was an avid gardener and over the years had collected a great number of pot plants had sadly developed dementia and could no longer care for the garden she had loved so much and eventually moved into residential care. Our member was gifted Glenda's terracotta pots and as there were more than she could use she kindly brought them into the Cowshed for other members to use.

Almost every member got involved, with some members making several pots. With no consultation about style and colour, a collection of different pots in all colours of the rainbow and patterns were mosaiced by our enthusiastic members. With a bag of potting mix and cuttings collected from members' gardens, pots were made up to be sold. To add to the fundraising potential of this project, two particularly talented members mosaiced two of the larger pots, and another talented artist who also creates with patchwork donated a beautiful rope bag she had made. These items were filled with donated goodies and became three terrific raffle prizes, with 240 tickets sold. We were all delighted to find out we had raised $1400.00 in total and it seemed appropriate that this fundraising initiative should benefit the research into Alzheimer's Disease here in WA. Our members were happy to donate to such a worthy cause and we think that Glenda and her family would be pleased with this choice
